[8.17.2014] LOS ANGELES. Over a thousand people marched downtown Los Angeles today protesting the recent killings of Ezell Ford by the Los Angeles Police Department and Michael Brown by the Ferguson Missouri Police Department. The marchers began their protests at LAPD headquarters and then took to the street chanting. They went all the way to Union Station and circled back to LAPD. At times the marchers stopped traffic. Some downtown drivers got caught between them. But a few car occupants raised their hands in the universal position for “I surrender” to show their support.
Many protestors sat down in intersections and placed their hands up in the air to show a sign of surrender and they chanted “hands up don’t shoot.” “Hands up don’t shoot” is believed to be the last words Michael Brown spoke before Police Officer Darren Wilson fatally shot him six times after the 18 year old refused to stop walking in the middle of a public street. Ezell Ford, a mentally ill young man, was stopped by LAPD for unknown reason right before LAPD shot and killed him.
The march ended peacefully after many spoke on behalf of the Ford family and for “all the other victims of LAPD killers.”
