“Black Lives Matter” Was Theme of The Day – Thousands Turn Out to See Martin Luther King Parade in Historic District of South Los Angeles

[LOS ANGELES] 1.19.2015. Marching bands, beauty queens with their courts, a posse of youth on horses, lots of police, and many politicians riding and walking carrying signs that read “Black Lives Matter” participated in today’s 30th annual Martin Luther King Day Parade. There were thousands of spectators who watched along the route as the parade participants passed them by. Both waved to each other with delight. One man complained that there was an over presence of police participation in the parade itself. “Makes it look like a military parade not a Martin Luther King parade” he said.

“Black Lives Matter” protests took place nationwide today and were meant to be protests against police violence and killings in America. The protest events were scheduled in at least 29 cities including Los Angeles. One group participating today said their mission was “to bring awareness to America’s epidemic of racial profiling and police brutality, and to honor all those who have been injured or died as a result of police violence.”
